Resolved Question: Moving removalists and wonky quotes?? Help?
Ok we’re moving 2 hrs and 16 mins away door to door (checked on google maps and tested it. is true.) We’ve been getting quotes for $2,100 But on our calculations it comes to 1,500?? How does this work? We’ve seen $120 per hr for 2 men. So it goes like this: Upload 3 hrs steer 2 hrs 16 min Unload 5 hrs steer back 2 hrs 16 min = 12 hrs 30 min X $120 per hr = $1,500 right? Is this reasonable? Are we expected to pay for them to eat lunch? Situation from regular estate home 3 bed 1 study. No piano no pool table. every light bamboo furniture. Nothing that me and my sister (age 18 21) haven’t easily lifted (other than 3 pot plants which we use a trolley for.) most everything is ready in the garage. To a home where half goes up stairs and half down. Strait external stairs. Some have quoted without knowing the destination. We’ve had over the phone quotes cheaper. But we don’t want another one of those bad experiences “well… that’ll be…”

Resolved Question: Is it possible to move house in 8 hours?
It needs to happen - quick - I will literally have 8 hours to do it in (leaving abusive hubby - needs to happen while he is at work as once I receive out there will be NO coming back!) I will be moving home (approx 30 - 40mins from current residence to new residence) General household furniture (queen size bed, chest of draws, bunk bed & single bed, desk, sofa, fridge, table, seat, washing machine, TV) clothing, bikes, toys, books etc .... NO ... this is 100% NOT how I would like things to be - after 20 years, kids etc etc this is anything but how I would like things to be - but reality is one very mad abusive man who refuses to go to counselling with/without me and a situation where the verbal abuse is escalating and getting scary ... SO ...Due to the circumstances I will not be able to do too much pre-packing as I do not want to alert him to the fact I am leaving.... Is it possible to do this if I have a few people to help and one of those removalists that offer a packing service? (Please do not tell me to forget my stuff and run ... alot of the furniture was my tardy Grandmothers & my parents - aside from emotional reasons.. on a practical level ..I will not have any $ to replace things LOL) Is moving home in 8 hours possible? ... Guy Being Buy ... Doing ALOT of Spring Cleaning at the moment!

Resolved Question: Awesome idea for a reality show?
We've every seen those wealthy, greedy wives on TV who spend their difficult working husbands money on thousands of dollars worth of junk everyday and think nothing of it right? Well wouldn't you adore to look them knocked down a peg or two? How awesome would it be if there was a reality show that tricked these lady into thinking their family has gone bankrupt! She comes home one day and finds removalists taking their furniture away and her husband crying naked in the front yard. Then make her live in a regular home, with regular clothes with very little money and look how they manage for a week or two so they can learn the value of money. I would totally watch this!

Resolved Question: How should I move my washing machine?
We are moving home, and when we bought our washing machine we got it delivered... but looking at it now it seems incredibly heavy and scary, and I'm not looking forward to moving it down the stairs, lifting it up into a van, and then getting it up 2 more flights of stairs at the new place... will we just need a step trolley and some strong men, or would you suggest we try to receive removalists? I'm just not sure exactly how heavy it is, and whether we will have problems... Thanks!

Resolved Question: Does My Prologue Sound Interesting?
This is a random concept that just popped into my head the other day. I'm not really sure what to do with it, but this is the prologue I've written. Does it sound interesting at every? And also, is the grammar and every that jazz correct? Prologue: The home, an old Victorian style home located in the depths of Sydney's inner city circle, gave way to one last and final piece of luggage that was carefully lifted and carried out of the home, where it was carted onto the back of a tiny and rundown removalist's truck. This was no ordinary removalist's truck, however, as the truck was an oddly brilliant shade of green. It also had the odd ability to fly rather than steer like most ordinary trucks. And that wasn't the only thing. For starters, the removalists, who were a couple of short and stocky men in cream coloured blouses and red suspenders, weren't your average removalist workers. Nor were they Santa's little helpers. For seconds, they were moving furniture at close to midnight. No one who was walking past them or who was in the vicinity of their company seemed to notice their presence, and with gloomy expressions on their faces they continued doing their work. The last piece they happened to carry out, which was a handsome leather oakwood seat, had once belonged to the tardy Professor Abacus Rose, whose untimely passing caught the attention of many who came to offer their condolensces to his only child, Scarlett Rose. Scarlett Rose was a lot of things that weren't fitted to the standards of a normal teenage girl. For one, she possessed a great deal of knowledge that surpassed the average seventeen year old. Secondly, she had never once attended a schooling institution - not one, as she had been tutored and sheltered from the outside world by her dad her entire life. Which was odd, even by magical standards. And third, which was, perhaps, the most incredible and brilliant oddity of them every, was that Scarlett Rose was a Witch. And a good one, at that. But no thought's of witchcraft crossed Scarlett's mind that night as the removalists finished loading up the furniture that had been in the Rose household for as long as Scarlett could remember. No, they were to be flown off to Waipukurau, New Zealand, where Scarlett was to live with her Aunt and her family until she became a legal adult. 'You cumin' with us, Missy?' asked one of the removalists, a particularly pugdy one with grey hair sticking out of his ears and a noticible hook nose. He was standing in front of her, holding a leather clip board in his hands. 'It says ere' that you ordered the "Self-Included" package' 'Pardon?' said Scarlett, confused. 'I think he's refering to the getting to New Zealand part your Aunt so deliriously forgot to mention in her letter. You'd think that in the span of eight months after the Master's death, she'd have informed you of this arrangement by now' drawled Scarlett's cat, Newton, who sat perched on her shoulder. Scarlett shot him a silencing look. 'Yeah. It means you're included in the delivery, adore. I take it it wasn't you oo' made this order?' Said the removalist, running a hand down the back of his head. He seemed to be getting a little irritated. 'Oh' said Scarlett, caught off guard. She pulled back her filmsy grey cloak to reveal a pale face and bright red hair. 'Right. Right, yes, it was my Aunts who assembled that order. My apologies'. The man didn't seem to care much. He looked over at his partner who was already in the truck and they exchanged a look. 'Ugh, alrightey then, adore, well let's hop to it, then' 'Excuse me?' It was going to be a long night.

Resolved Question: Need advice on helping out our friends?
Recently our best friends have had a real run of drama - he was retrenched and had to take a job in another city. Then is wife fell pregnant. This weekend they have asked us to help them move home. In particular he wants my husband to help with every the heavy lifting and to use our trailer. My husband is worried about his back (we are not young anymore) plus he is an industrial electrician with his possess company and if he puts his back out it means he cannot work. I also have very bad knees. We can help with smaller boxes etc but they have a steep flight of 20 steps to their flat and we know it is going to be difficult work. They don't have the money for removalists and we offered to lend them, but they don't want to be in debt. Our pal can be a bit pushy and we feel we are in a position where we will leave him in the lurch. We have always saved our money in the case of difficult times, however they are spendthrifts and I think this is why we feel a bit put out. We know that he will try to receive us to move everything in one day, and we know it is going to take us till midnight. We really do value their friendship and don't want to jeopardise it. Our pal doesn't steer either

Resolved Question: When you moved house, did you let the movers pack your valuable items?
I'm trying to decide whether to receive the movers (removalists) to pack every my stuff, some of my stuff or only the stuff which isn't valuable. The thing I'm worried about is that they'll dent a canvas painting, or drop something fragile, or put two items together in a box that will scratch each other... the employer is paying for the move, so it's not the cost that bothers me but whether or not I should let the men handle my more important possessions. Has anybody here had a problem with things being damaged during moving home?

Resolved Question: Is my friend overreacting to her scorpion infestation or could it be a real danger? (Australia)?
Last night at 3am I woke up to screaming and banging on my front door. I ran to look what was going on and found my friends Stacy crying on the front needy with a suitcase and her school bag. I let her in and she explained that every day she'd been finding little scorpions every over her home which was very unusual because you don't look them often where we live in Australia and she had been getting her dad to pick them up with tongs and toss them in the bin. Then last night she says she felt something drop onto her bed, she turned on the night and saw a scorpion running up the blanket towards her. She immediately grabbed her overnight bag, school bag and ran to my home down the road. She begged me to let her stay here and of course I said yes but now she's talking about moving in to be away from the scorpions! And I don't think I'm ready for that, I only just moved out of home and I'm enjoying living alone for the moment. Could these scorpions be dangerous at every or is she blowing the problem way out of proportion? I talked to her Dad who said he took 6 scorpions outside mostly from in the kitchen and bathroom and that there were more in the yard so I think it's a genuine infestation, he's looking into pest removalists. According to Stacy the scorpions are "brown and black with spots and yellow legs" does this sound like a species anyone is familiar with? They would have to be found in Sydney NSW thanks for any info. I posted this here instead of the zoology board because no one was answering there so please don't refer me back there

Resolved Question: Speaker problems. No sound when I turn them on. I only get sound when I quickly cycle the power at the wall.?
Altec Lansing Speakers. 2 speakers and a subwoofer. You power them on by pressing volume up and down simultaneously. The problems only started after we moved. Could it be bad packing on the behalf of the removalists? Speakers about 6 years old and have worked perfectly until after the move. Headphones and anything else I plug into the PC work fine. The power on light shows up even when no sound comes on. To receive them working, I turn the power off and a split second later the sound turns on and then I have to quickly flick the switch on to make them work. Afterwards, I can use the normal power on/off method but if they are off for a couple of hours, I have to repeat the process.

Resolved Question: Owner wants to sell rental property Im in?
I live on the gold coast and have been renting a property since August last year . I signed a 12 month lease thru a real estate on the behalf of the owner...who told me he owns lots of rental properties....I pay rent straight into his bank account....I had planned to stay indefinatly. I have just received a phone call from the owner saying he just got out of hospital after having a heart attack and the bank is calling him demanding money... He said he was going to put the place on the market. I know I cant be told to move until my lease is up...But I feel like I just got here and I dont want to go in August, also I cant afford to move. With removalists, disconnections and re-connections it adds up...Plus rents are enormous in this area. My question is...If I dont want to move, do I have too?

Resolved Question: How do I pack / wrap artwork?
We are moving to a new State. I have several big framed artworks with glass and a couple of big canvases. What is the best way to carefully wrap / pack them? Should I wrap them in bubble-wrap and paper - will that be sufficient? I would hate to arrive at our new home and the glass smashed or the canvas punctured. Resolved Question: Driving a rental car interstate in Aus...cheap?
Moving home, live in Sydney, moving to Perth. Only have a bedroom to move so removalists are too expensive. Would adore to do a Sydney to Perth steer so figured if we can receive a one ton van for rent in Sydney and drop it off in Perth it would be perfect. Did a bit of research and most car companies charge between $700 and $6000 for a 'relocation fee'. Is there a way around this with another company? I also saw on tv, people needing their cars moved interstate so pay someone to steer it for them. Where can i find this?

Resolved Question: Shipping a trunk from Canberra to Melbourne?
We have a trunk that we would like to send from Canberra to Melbourne (Werribee). (We don't mind taking it to or from a depot either here or in Melbourne) Could anyone advise of a reasonable priced way of doing this as we had two quotes from removalists which appear to have very high minimum charges. I just bought a piano and the removalists (and my Grandmother) told me that the back of the piano has to face an inside wall. I don't think it should affect the piano either way but I just want to be sure. They reckon that it is because the elements of the weather affect the piano through an outside wall as opposed to an inside one.

Resolved Question: My cat ran away any tips on how to get him back?
I view him like my possess son. I am heartbroken. I want to receive my beautiful cat back. I have not seen him for 9 days. He likes to explore and the most he has ever been away was 2 nights. He is a pedigree, a very friendly loving nature and an extremely beautiful cat. He will make friends with anyone like a trusting puppy dog. He is a very big beautiful cat. He showed me more loyalty and adore than any human ever has. I am so unhappy he is gone. I can't believe or accept it. What can I do to receive him home. I am too emotional to think of a proper plan but I need to. I will offer a reward and design flyer's to put up everywhere and in every the local papers. I am also going to receive another cat to help me with the grief because I am very upset he is gone. I have never known such a loving beautiful creature and am struggling to forgive God to take my baby.(if you want to judge me for writing of my personal views don't bother, I am upset and venting a little bit today, if you want to encourage great otherwise please keep any mean views to yourself). I am grieving the loss of my baby cat and too upset to sob. I have had to move so many times in the past 3 years and this last time the company in Hobart Allied Pickford removalists did not unload every my belongings. Over $600 of designer shoes and lots of books were not unloaded. Because I have been in too much pain to unpack from a spinal injury I just recently realized after going through every my things they have not unpacked my things, or delivered them to my new address. I need my summer casual footwear. They are special supportive shoes because I have a spinal injury and neeed them to walk. I am sick of being robbed by drop kicks. Make your money legitimately don't steal from unwell people. I will have to sue them because of the huge amopunt of things they have stolen. I am sick of this slimebag world. If you answer tell me of one decent human being you know. I bet noone can because there are no decent people on this planet, so I have animals for friends. If people had 1% of the qualities of animals the world would be a decent place.

Voting Question: I moved and they did not give me all my things when they unloaded.?
I moved home in Hobart with Allied Pickfords. I had bags of shoes. They are every my sandals, walking shoes, runners, summer casuals and amount to over $600. The men did not leave every my personal things at my new address that they collected from the initial address only some things. I am so upset. These shoes are important to me as they are very expensive and it seems unfair that I should have to not have them because they did not take them out of the truck and bring them into my new home. I am so upset. I have contacted them but there has been no answer. I have looked everywhere and have not overlooked them in my new place. I have searched thoroughly. It is so unfair. My cat ran away, moving is so stressful especially when people take your things. They would have had to have discovered the shoes later and could have let me know. I have gone through everything and do not have them. The men were very rude when they shifted me. I was a lady on my possess and they did not behave as gentleman. I was disgusted and would never use their company but to take my things is not on and I need to find out what my rights are. They are every designer shoes and expensive. I want them back!! What can I do. I will not stand for them taking my things. Is there anything I can do. Years ago Van Lines in Noosaville stole lots of antique furniture and personal sentimental items from my childhood. The financial loss was great but I never recovered from the loss of sentimental value. Many removalists are corrupt. (some are good, not every are bad) We need to warn others of our experiences to spare others experiencing the grief of loosing valuable items especially when you pay people a lot of money to look after them. every I asked for was to return my things. Please what can I do. I don't want to loose more things again. Should I take them to court and sue them?

Resolved Question: do i owe my friend money? confused and need advise?
Awhile ago I crashed my pal/roommates old car. In the 2 years we have lived together he has washed up 3 times ( I kept track of this), he has NEVER helped clean around the home and always left mess everywhere. we recently moved home and he has contributed nothing, he packed his clothing and such into boxes and went over seas for a month during the move. I have paid for every removalists, gardeners, home cleaning and steam cleaning and have done over 15 trips between the houses with items that would not fit in the truck. I have given him 200 dollars for the car so far but feel after this move that I don't owe him anymore. I just need some advice, has anyone been in a similar situation? Do you think I still owe him for the car or has this move evened us out? I plan on keeping the bond return to cover some of the costs of moving, cleaning etc. even though I have put a huge effort into making sure the old home is ok for final inspection and I completely set up the new home by my self, do I still owe him money? Part.of me still thinks I do owe him but another.part of me is mad that I have done so much alone. Yeah 200 won't fix it, its a write off. Already taken to wreckers for 150. If it helps anyone at every, he didn't tell me it wasn't insured before I drove it and it was a 1987 station wagon, I only crashed the peice of s**t because the brakes were almost non existent. I still feel if I bring up the subject its going to cause a battle and end our friendship which I really dont want to happrb.

I freaked out thinking I had been robbed, when I looked out the window and saw a removalist truck parked in our driveway and that the removalists were arguing with my neighbours because the were supposed to pack up my neighbours home and had packed up mine by mistake. Then I turned around and saw my dog (great dane cross) fighting with a pitball in my dining room. I don't even know how the pit bull got in. My dog lost and ran down the hallway into my bedroom, I followed, scared of the pit bull, but the pit bull didn't threaten me and wagged its tail as I went past (acted like it was my pal). When I got into my bedroom, I was comforting my dog, when every of a sudden I noticed another dog in my bedroom - a little white maltese terrier who was every excited to look me. odd dream! Any ideas what it means?

Resolved Question: Lady Wooster belives it is wrong?
to evict a tenant farmer on christmas eve, I disagree. It has greater effect as they will not be able to receive removalists or find somewhere to stay as it is christmas eve. She believes the psychological effect of evicting them actually on christmas day is far more effective to instill fear amongst the peasants, as they are every warm and tucked up in their tiny little houses on the estate feeling good and then bailiffs appear and toss their furniture out into the snow. they havnt actualy done anything done anything its just a family tradition started by Lord Wooster the first (also know as Lord Percy the glad} If any one has an opinion which method is better to control the peasants with please answer with expediency
